End-of-the-Year Analysis Paralysis
Here we are, the end of 2022!
The holiday season is upon us and the pressures of finishing the year strong are all around us.
Recently, I started to feel a little overwhelmed and anxious with end-of-the-year jitters. So much so, I felt paralyzed in this feeling, unable to move forward or backward. I was simply stuck in the “analysis paralysis” of all the things I need to do before the year comes to an end.
Anyone else feel this way? If so, hopefully it gives you some peace of mind to know that you are not alone!
If you too are feeling some analysis paralysis or end-of-the-year anxiety, try some of these tricks to reframe your December mindset!
1. STAY ACTIVE
Remember, a body in motion stays in motion! So don’t let the holidays knock you out of your routine! Maintain that consistency and let that momentum carry you into the New Year! Plus, movement is medicine. The best way to get out of your head and off the hamster wheel of overthinking is to work up a sweat and move your body! Trust me, it works every time.
2. EAT HEALTHY
The holidays are stocking stuffed full of family, festivities, and FOOD! So rather than beating yourself up for eating 4 slices of your grandma’s famous apple crumble pie, try implementing the 80/20 rule! For the rest of the month, focus on eating 80% nutritious, healthy foods so you can indulge the other 20% in your favorite holiday treats. The balance will help you feel less glutenous and more deserving of that second (or third) helping of decadent holiday dishes.
3. CELEBRATE YOUR WINS
Shift your perspective! Reflect on the year you’ve had and focus on celebrating all of your successes, big and small. It’s easy to forget all of the amazing things we succeeded at over the course of the year, sometimes the negative moments can overshadow the positive ones. By mindfully acknowledging the highlights, you can feel proud of the progress and accomplishments you’ve achieved!
4. SPEND TIME WITH LOVED ONES
This one might seem obvious, but sometimes we need a gentle reminder to be present during the holidays. Stop scrolling and put down your phone, focus on spending some quality time with the people you love in your life! Make some memories to last a lifetime! Sharing laughter with those you love can help you remember what is truly important in life.
5. TAKE TIME FOR YOU
In contrast to tip #4, sometimes we can be too focused on everyone around us and neglect doing things for ourselves. Carve out some time to show yourself some love, in whatever fashion makes sense for YOU. Remember, you can’t fill from an empty cup, so don’t forget to keep your cup full!
These are just some of the simple tricks that helped me snap out of my funk this holiday season! I hope at least one of these ideas helps you shift back into the magic of the holiday season and finish the year strong!
